Compact Intermediate Breakdown

The Compact Intermediate was designed for ultimate stealth and versatility.

We designed this line with an overly aggressive, clear intermediate head featuring a short 20 ft. body. The compact body paired with a short 3 ft. front taper easily turns over large air resistant flies in heavy wind. The short 3 ft. back taper helps load this line quickly with minimal false casting. This dual colored line features a monofilament core with our signature Shooting Technology to keep your line remaining slick, supple and fast shooting. The clear and light blue color combination distinguishes taper change and identifies loading point.

The Compact Intermediate is one of our most versatile lines for a variety of species and conditions. Aggresive taper to turn over any size fly featuring a stealthy clear head.

FAQ

Our Compact Intermediate fly line is built for both medium and warm water environments. This line will perform best in temperatures between 50 and 70+ degrees (F).

The taper design for our Compact Intermediate was built overly aggressive to cast large flies, punch through wind and deliver flies where they need to go despite the conditions. The short body and short rear taper allows for minimal false casts while achieving maximum distance. The short front taper will turn over any large fly or weighted pattern with ease. This line is built overweighted for quick loading and fast shooting.

The clear and light blue color combination distinguishes taper change and proper loading point. The clear head paired with the light blue running line is extremely stealthy and blends in with a variety of water types.

Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.

I am nearly 75 and just don't have the strength and response that I used to. I was looking for a line to pursue large pike and musky with large flies. After test casting this line with a fast 10wt rod and found that it was smooth flowing and quick to load, few back casts, one or two with the head beyond the rod tip. I could cast large 10", wind resistant streamers to 80', which is good for me. I can see making 50' to 60' casts with large flies all day with little arm fatigue.

My favourite coho line

Been use this line, for the last 3 years. It’s has now taken the place of the ghost tip, for most of my coho salmon fishing. I fish both salt and fresh water with it. It is by far my favourite casting line. Would highly recommended, as I have already to my people.

Nice option for the low and clear.

I like fishing a 4-5' leader for streamer bass. In low flow summer conditions, the fish get spooky, and I think every little bit of stealth helps. I'm running the 240g on a fast 7wt and its nice. Totally subjective, but the intermediate feels "light" for a 240g on the rod. The mono core is nice in the summer, but I have a much better day if I give this line a stretch before heading out. Clear tip lines can be weird, I think this is the least quirky of them and pleasant to fish (have not tried the coastal quickshooters tho).

Hands down best intermediate!

I'm a huge fan of the compact line series, but this one in particular is stellar. Shoots distance with ease whether it's a #2 or 6/0 fly on the end. After largemouth in 80 degree water or stripers in 50 degree water, this line always gives me a chub.
