Reviving old fly lines.
I recently learned about this little known shooting line via a good friend. I have several old saltwater fly lines gathering dust that had issues with running lines either too slick, cracked or tangling from my stripping basket. I prefer good grip and only one back cast targeting striped bass and false albacore from shore. After a little experimentation, I custom made my own shooting heads from these old lines using a gram scale to approximate grain weight of 30 feet of the heads and ten or more feet of the cut back running lines to find the sweet spot in some of my favorite medium fast saltwater fly rods. Oh my God. Old dog, New trick! Amazing results! Wishing I could buy bulk 100 yard spools of this stuff. No more tangled running lines! Simply insert the old running line and 40 pound section of perfection looped leader into each end. Whip finish the ends and add a few drips of Zap A Gap! Looped nail knot to the backing. Very strong connection based on over 30 albies to hand! Kudos to Matthew Borovy in tech at Cortland and Joe Goodspeed for all the help!
